A majority of people in Northern Ireland (52%) now say that if Brexit goes ahead, they would vote for a United Ireland. Only 39% said they would want to stay part of Britain, in the event of Brexit going ahead. The Tories, and their DUP allies, by pushing ahead with Brexit, to resolve the internal disagreements in the Tory Party, have thereby created the conditions, which are driving against one of the central aspects of their reason for existence as political parties - Unionism. Of course, if a border poll is held in Northern Ireland, resulting in the creation of a United Ireland, its effect would spread way beyond Ireland. It would create a powerful incentive for a new independence referendum in Scotland, which would undoubtedly be won, as Scotland would be able to join with Ireland, as part of a Celtic Federation within the EU.
