John McDonnell For Deputy Leader

If the Labour Left in parliament has any residual purpose, and if the trades unions have any desire to stop the continuing disaster that is Starmer's Blue Labour, and its impending descent into oblivion, they should ensure that John McDonnell stands for Deputy Labour Leader, and that he wins that election.

It would be the biggest message to Starmer and the reactionary petty-bourgeois nationalists around him that their time is up.  Reform cannot be beaten by appeasing it, and adopting its clothes, but only by confronting its racist lies and bigotry, and presenting an attractive, socialist alternative.  That alternative involves not just the kind of mildly progressive, social-democratic agenda that seems to be being offered by the Corbyn Party, but the potential to move beyond it, including an internationalist position offering a rapid re-joining of the EU, as part of the fight for a socialist Europe.

In place of Starmer's affinity with national flags, we should offer the red flag of socialism.
