Okay a lot of people would not count Band of Gold as a Northern Classic, but as one of the early Torch DJ's, Graham "Davo" Davison, said to me at the time, the only reason, is because it was also such a big commercial hit. In every respect it deserves to be up there with the best.

I say it has all the elements of a Northern Soul song. If there were only 5 known copies, they would be worth 1000's a piece. I get rarity, I get obscurity, but hear Smokey Robinsons tears of a clown and tell me that's not got the Northern beat in spades.
I agree, and you could add "Going to A Go-Go", even more so.
